Week FourPitch Day // September 11th, 2023When deciding what project my partner and I were going to complete, it was an easy decision. Riley Children's Hospital is something that is important to our school and our community. Mr. Voelz, our principal, is very passionate about Riley is always trying to reach the goal of becoming a Riley Red Wagon School. We knew that he would be all in for our project and would grant us with any help. On our class pitch day, we presented the idea of doing a Red for Riley football game, and everyone seemed all for it! We were excited to have the permission to get this project going. First, we had to approve a date with the Athletic Directors. We approved the date to be September 29th which is Senior Night and Homecoming. This will draw a big crowd to the game to be able to support Riley. We have a goal of $2,500 and we plan to achieve this goal through raffle baskets. We will also have rally towels for sale for $5 which fans can use in the stands. At the game, we will have a tent set up for fans to visit, donate, and buy raffle tickets. Our next step in this process is to contact businesses in our community and ask for donations to put into our raffle baskets. Week EightGoing to Businesses // September 18th, 2023After we decided what path we were taking for our project, we had to get working on contacting businesses. We typed up a letter to give to businesses around our area. We asked for any sort of donations that we could include into our raffle baskets. During class time, we were able to leave school and visit our list of businesses. We gave each business the letter we typed out and told them about our project. Some businesses gave us donations right then and there, and some businesses told us to stop back by and they would have something to donate to us. We made sure to give our contact information to the businesses so they could contact us. Once we started to gather items, we began putting them into categories based on the item. We compiled 8 different baskets with donations from the businesses we visited. We had tons of apparel wear for our high school, golfing and movie passes, and many gift certificates. The week before the game, we went out to purchase baskets to put all of our donations in. We got over $1,000 in donations and we made sure to promote the businesses and thank them for their donations and support! |
